Regulation

There are 20 teams facing each other in first and second leg, totaling 380 matches, distributed in 38 rounds. The team that scores the most points at the end of the championship wins the English title. The top four qualify for the Champions League, while the 5th place wins a place in the Europa League. The relegation works as follows: the last two placed (19th and 20th) are automatically relegated to the second division, while the 18th placed plays a playoff against the 3rd placed in the Championship, to try to remain in the elite.

Dates

The first round is scheduled to start on August 14, 2021, while the last round is scheduled for May 22, 2022. The Premier League has the traditional Boxing Day, a tradition where games take place over the Christmas holiday. Several matches (from all divisions) take place on December 26th.

+ Information

This will be the 120th English Championship in history, and the 30th in this current format (Premier League). This season, only 3 substitutions per team are allowed again, different from the 5 changes allowed in the last edition. However, it will be allowed to keep 9 players on the bench as an option to join throughout the match. In addition, the VAR will have some adjustments for specific bids, such as offside. Thicker lines will be used for moves of this type, benefiting the attackers. With this, millimetric moves will be considered the same line and the goal validated.

We will probably have fewer penalties in this edition, as the referees were advised to be more rigorous in the evaluation, not marking penalty in any contact.

Odds of the favourites to the title in bookmakers

As much as it's one of the most balanced championships in Europe, bookmakers are putting total favoritism on the current champions, Manchester City. The team led by Pep Guardiola has an average odd of 1.66 to raise the pitcher. To get an idea, the next teams considered favorites are Chelsea and Liverpool, with odds around 6.00. As for Manchester United, the houses are paying 9.00 for the team to win the English title again.

What were the best signings of the favourite teams to win the title?

Starting with the home favourite, Manchester City reinforced themselves with one of the highlights of last year's Premier League: midfielder Jack Grealish. It was the biggest transaction in the history of English football (117 million euros). Chelsea are still negotiating their biggest signing of the season: striker Romero Lukaku, from Inter Milan. The Belgian is very close to the London team, but the last details for it to be official are lacking. One giant club that is hungry for the title is Manchester United. The Red Devils went to Germany and brought England midfielder Jadon Sancho, as their main signing so far. Another team that is always considered strong is Liverpool, but Jurgen Klopp's team didn't make big changes in the squad. The main signing was the young but promising defender Ibrahima Konaté, ex RB Leipzig.
